Matt Davids book, The No-Prep Gamemaster is a short book, 1h 50m, that intends to show you how you can run a tabletop roleplaying game with little to no pre-game preparation. It is read by Zac Katz-Stein, who does a fine job. I have no complaints. The book starts with a history of Matt's trials and travails of learning how to gamemaster, why he stopped doing prep work, and how that made his games better. Sounds to me like he was over prepping in an inefficient manner. The book then gives us his three keys to being a no-prep gamemaster, how you can apply them, and why you should. And wraps everything up with some tips and tricks that you can use.
This book will help you cut down on preparation if you follow it's advice. But the advice itself isn't new. All of this is well trodden ground, and I would venture to say you've heard most of it from Sly Flourish in his Lazy Dungeon Master books. But still, it is good advice and you can only benefit your game by listening to what Matt Davids has to share with you. It's less than 2-hours out of your life. You've got that kind of time, I know you do. Grab it for free on Hoopla and give it a listen.
