Easter - No D&D Today

Image
The adventures of both Thergale the Verdant and Walton Glaives have been put on hiatus for this Sunday so that everyone can spend time celebrating the Easter holiday in whatever fashion they will. I will be going to visit my in-laws where we hope to eat chinese food and enjoy each others company. Happy Easter! If you're into that sort of thing. Happy Sunday, if you're not.

Random Encounter - Christmas Break

Image
It is the night before Christmas and all through the house rings the sound of the vacuum cleaner and festive music. Will we get another Amazon delivery? Only Santa knows. While Walton Glaives is ready to get back to the adventure and deal with this Red Wizard of Thay, once and for all, I don't think I could convince my wife that Christmas Eve D&D is a good thing. So while Walton may be in something of a sulk, I'll be doing family things for the holiday. Drinking eggnog, wrapping gifts, eating cookies, cleaning the house, and preparing for the biggest gift giving holiday of the year. Having bought several gifts for myself, I assure you that I have some cool stuff to show you in the very near future. Enjoy your holidays and have yourself a very merry Christmas. Wishing you a Merry Christmas --Ronn

Random Encounter Sick Day

Image
Sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching, stuffy head, fever, so-you-have-to-be-kidding-me, still sick time of year. I took awhile to perculate, but after flying back from DC two weeks ago I got sick. Nothing terrible. I'm not dying. But I still don't feel great and probably nobody else wants to feel what I'm feeling, so I'm staying home. No D&D for me today. I don't want to get my tissue damp fingers all over those lovely dice. That reads far grosser than intended, but I'm leaving it.

Random Encounter - Washington DC

Image
I could go to todays game, I've got the time. I'm just sitting here doing nothing, but I'm still in Washington DC waiting on a plane that won't get back to Grand Rapids until almost 11:00 PM. And that's the rub, so much time, so little to do.

Roleplaying News and Updates

Bunch of table news today, most of it bad and most of it not terribly relevant to you.  Adventure: The 3-Dragon Problem. Yesterday, the group I Dungeon Master for in Plymouth got together to play some D&D. Last session they suffered a bad defeat and all of their characters ended up captured. My solution to this dilemma was to put them in the shoes of their rivals and send them in to rescue their characters. I mixed things up, rather than letting them choose, and made the wizard play a fighter, the fighter play a wizard, the monk play a cleric, and the paladin was given a rogue. They successfully infiltrated, assaulted, and rescued their characters as well as a trio of townsfolk. I'm sure there will be no repercussions from the heroes being rescued by their rivals. But, as a bonus they got to know the rival party better than they might have otherwise done. It was a good session and I think everyone had fun. At the end, I told the gang to level up their characters, everyone is n...

Random Encounter: Missed

Image
Despite the Labor Day holiday weekend the Random Encounter gang got together to party up and continue the adventure.  Walton Glaives was absent from this session of Random Encounter because I was in Florida and couldn't get back in time to make the game. The group continued the exploration of the Warlocks Crypt. Monster's were killed, treasure was gained, and despite my absence Walton  became a 4th-level wizard. I have some decisions to make and a character sheet to update. Woot!

Random Encounter #002:

Image
I need to write up the Random Encounter session. I went, I just didn't write it up. Some stuff happened.  Different group dynamics every time with the rotating cast of characters. Satyr's cult headed to the Warlocks Crypt on the maps Coming off a long rest with the Cult and preparing to go into the Warlocks Crypt.

Random Encounter #001: Meetup

Image
Technically, not #001, as it's pretty apparent that this group has been going on for a while now. But, it's new to me. What am I talking about? Well, I decided to get out of my shell and join the RPG community after a long hibernation from actively participating in the hobby. I looked up Dungeons & Dragons on the Meetup website a while back, sat on the results for weeks, and finally decided to take the plunge. Today, I joined a group at the local game store for an afternoon of adventure. The meetup event is called Random Encounter and purports to be a series of one-shots or short campaigns of various systems.  I joined the event on Meetup  and the DM Mike reached out to me Saturday morning. They're playing DnD 5e right now and asked if I was familiar with the game. I said I was experienced and open to playing just about anything, what did their group need. The answer, they need a magic user (obviously an old school DM here), so I've made a wizard. They're playin...
